Three-time MVP Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Triple National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The star player injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an unintentional collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the footwear of the MVP, who immediately fell to the ground holding his knee.
The star, who tops the league this season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight assists in the game before incurring the injury.
Jokic will undergo an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the injury.
"Instantly, Jokic understood he was hurt," said Denver head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm focused about him personally and the letdown of going through a situation of that nature."
