The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the Britain's small concert spaces.

The star was given the cheque on 16 October as his latest record his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to issues stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted funding support in improving amenities and gear that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from performances in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," she shared with a publication.

Previously, the band contributed their winnings to the local youth club that developed their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year they gave their award to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued several local spots in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
