Soccer Analyst Sutton Faces Off Against Singer Murs in Premier League Forecasts
Arsenal's ten-match winning streak came to an end by the Black Cats prior to the global break, but can the English top division leaders bounce back against local foes Tottenham this Sunday?
"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.
"Frank will attempt to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling finest this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's team typically still manage to win."
The analyst is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League games this term, versus artificial intelligence, fans and a variety of guests.
In week 12, he faces performer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United supporter.
The singer's latest album, Knees Up, is out on Friday.
Football and Family Life
Murs is a skilled footballer as well as a accomplished artist and has been a featured player of multiple charity football matches over time - but he is not intending a professional return as a footballer.
"{I recently played in a charity match the other night for a mate of mine," he said. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I was substituted in the 60th minute, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you want!
"I continue to love football, but I injured my joint a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my career to do it seriously again.
"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my daughter or son decides to play instead."
The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have two children, Madison and Albert, and he is ready to emulate his dad by becoming their manager.
"I won't force football on our kids but I've already told my wife that if they happen to get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will likely be coaching their weekend soccer side," he added.
"I observed my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a football club for a while too.
"My dad did it with us when I was a kid, which is likely where I inherited it. He coached our side for several seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"
Top Division Predictions
Saturday, 22 November
- Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT
The Blues might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is now stronger with Pedro and Delap both back fit.
I still think this fixture will be quite close, though. Burnley are disciplined and their only home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal.
This smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am in fact going to choose the London side to win narrowly for what would be their third league win in a row.
The expert's forecast: 1-2
The singer's prediction: The Blues will be superior. 1-3
AI's prediction: 0-2
- Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Cherries have lost their previous couple games - albeit both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.
On the other hand, the Hammers secured two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those fixtures were at their stadium, they do look competitive again.
The Hammers' only on the road victory this season came at Forest in August, when West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo was still that team's manager.
Therefore, what on earth do I go with here - will it be West Ham extending their streak under Nuno, or Bournemouth bouncing back?
I am going to go with the Cherries, because I think what occurred against Villa was a anomaly.
Sutton's prediction: 2-0
Olly's prediction: Bournemouth are doing well but West Ham have picked up under Nuno. 2-2
AI's prediction: 1-1
- Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT
Brentford were seen as one of the favourites for relegation before the season started, but they have impressed a few people under Keith Andrews and are in fine fettle with three wins in their last four matches.
My son advised me to select Bees striker Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks back and, guess what, I ignored the advice.
Thiago will likely score again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or support the away side at Amex Stadium.
The Bees have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are always decent at home. Brentford will try to hit them on the counter-attack but I feel Fabian Hurzeler's team carry much more of a threat.
Sutton's prediction: 2-1
Olly's prediction: It could be one of those games where you think there is going to be a lot of scores but it in reality turns out to be rather close. 1-1
The computer's prediction: 2-1
- Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT
This is a massive fixture for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their last six matches.
They have have lots of talent in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be sucked into a relegation fight.
As for the Black Cats, indeed they are the unexpected success of the Premier League campaign so far.
Their performance in the 2-2 draw with the Gunners last time out was superb. We have not seen any other team disrupt the Gunners like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.
The sensible thing to do to support the Black Cats here, because they are clearly capable of roughing Fulham up too and, the last time they were in west London, they beat the Blues at the end of October.
But I am not do that. Rather, I really need to continue opposing Sunderland with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of responsibility for their good outcomes because they evidently love to defy my predictions.
Considering Fulham's at Craven Cottage form, the only side they have lost to is Arsenal. Marco Silva's side will be extremely eager for a positive outcome, so I am going to say they will secure three much-needed points.
The expert's prediction: 1-0
The guest's choice: I know Sunderland are doing well and also that the hosts are on a bad streak... but they have still been decent at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0
The algorithm's outlook: 2-0
- Anfield, 15:00 GMT
This is a tough fixture to call. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten matches in all competitions, but could they be among the teams who profit from the {international break|
