A 60-day cruise circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a break. The ship departed without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff realised the passenger was not present.

A major hunt located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that guests and personnel on the ship were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that passengers would be provided a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from entering the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its return.

The vessel initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an planned outing without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mum's life".
