New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
