Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
