Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
