Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
