Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
